Regional Behavioral Health Advisor, Region 6

Zayna Fulton is a Public Health Practitioner whose passion for eradicating health disparities and inequities spans across marginalized, at-risk populations. The familiarity of exposure to chronic illnesses and diseases during her childhood sparked her desire to give back. Zayna knew she wanted to instill change and healthy outcomes throughout her community, and other populations in need. She takes pride in the various roles she has held that have allowed her to work within different realms of public health and promote optimal health outcomes in diverse populations.

Zayna comes to Region VI from the Northeast, where she served in several roles that addressed the socioeconomic impact on health outcomes within communities. Within her role as a Clinical Research Associate at the NYU Langone’s Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine, Zayna worked alongside an Emergency Medicine Physician. This position allowed her the opportunity to be involved in a study that utilized local barbershops to provide diabetes education, prevention, and intervention. She then went on to serve as a Program Coordinator/Research Assistant for the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health where she was the lead on multiple public health initiatives throughout the Brooklyn community. Zayna also obtained the lead on Arthur Ashe’s summer health disparities research internship for high school students in New York City. She served as an AmeriCorps VISTA, and AmeriCorps State and National Member. Most recently, Zayna served as a Public Health and Prevention Specialist with the Texas Department of State Health Services. In this capacity, Zayna conducted HIV surveillance, intervention, prevention, and outreach services for over forty counties in Northern Texas. Zayna’s current scope of focus is immersing herself in the interconnection between social determinants of health, substance abuse, infectious diseases, and mental health. She looks forward to bringing her experiences, passion, and knowledge to the region and agency!

Zayna graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition. She then went on to earn her Master of Public Health in Health Behavior and Community Health from New York Medical College and her Master of Science in Medical Sciences from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She is a certified Community Health Worker and certified in Global Health.

Zayna is also an avid foodie! She loves traveling the globe and immersing herself in different cultures. She enjoys spending her free time with her family, friends, and goldendoodle pup named Crymson.
