Office of Behavioral Health Equity


Office of Behavioral Health Equity (OBHE) advances behavioral health equity by reducing disparities in racial, ethnic, LGBTQIA+, and other under-resourced communities across the country by improving access to quality services and supports that enables all to thrive, participate, and contribute to healthier communities.


  • Develops and promotes behavioral health equity policy initiatives that strengthen the impact of SAMHSA programs for all, especially, for under-resourced populations
  • Uses quantitative/qualitative data strategies to identify gaps that are address and that increases equitable access to behavioral health resources for under-resourced populations being served by community-based organizations (CBOs)
  • Expands and increases the diversity of the behavioral health workforce and its national capacity to improve outreach, engagement, and quality of care
  • Increases awareness and access to behavioral health disparities strategies to advance equity and to promote resilience in under-resourced populations
  • Provides customer service, training, and technical assistance to diverse behavioral health communities and stakeholders with the goal of ensuring that sustainable resources are secured that advances behavioral health equity resilience in under-resourced populations
