How to Apply for a SAMHSA Grant


Information is provided on how to apply for a SAMHSA Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).

Choosing a Funding Opportunity (NOFO)

Search for a NOFO on the SAMHSA Grants Dashboard. You can also search by the Notice of Funding Opportunity Number or the Assistance Listing number/Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number. Both numbers are on the cover page of the NOFO. Each NOFO includes specific instructions for completing an application.


Only domestic public and private non-profit entities can apply for SAMHSA grants. Every SAMHSA NOFO posted on the Grants Dashboard and will include additional eligibility requirements.

2024 NOFO Application Guide

The FY 2024 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) Application Guide provides detailed instructions for preparing and submitting your SAMHSA grant application. This guide is referenced throughout all FY 2024 NOFOs. Sections referenced in the NOFO will include a hyperlink that will take you directly to that information.

The Application Guide helps applicants to understand key parts of the application process, including the registration requirements, how to complete the required attachments, and prepare your budget. In addition, there is valuable information about federal policies and regulations you must follow.

Addition Application Forms and Resources

If you are applying for a SAMHSA grant, you must download the application forms found on You may require additional forms found on the SAMHSA website. Read the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) carefully to determine which forms you must include in your application. Applications that do not include all required forms will be screened out and will not be eligible for review.
